CREATIVE KOREA II
National Program

2014 – 2018 (5 years)

It refers to a government business which selected 77 project groups from 28 universities for five years starting from 2014 to foster the local creative economy and establish specialized foundations for creative professionals. It creates robust condition of creativity by intensively rearing comparative advantages for universities in the metropolitan area.

Sogang University’s Art & Technology major provides various specialized programs such as Imagination Start-Up Idea Contest, Small Creator Group, Art&Technology Conference, and runs Art & Technology center with government’s financial support while carrying out the CREATIVE KOREA II National Program(CK-II) with the name of ‘Global Creative Talent Development Project’.

Purpose

We selected the following goals based on three educational philosopy of Art&Technology :
1) Learning by doing Education
2) Trans-disciplinary Education
3) Global Education

to foster creative professionals with humanistic imagination, artistic sensitivity, and technology skills.

Convergence education without boundaries in between humanity-based art/design and technology

– Curriculum that combines humanities, technology, and art/design

– Horizontal peer mentoring program

College Acceptance Rate

Recruitment unit of Art & Technology admission existing over past five years has been ranked first among 24 other admission majors at Sogang University consecutively (average acceptance rate 20:1)

Major Satisfaction

First place major satisfaction among all undergraduate majors in Sogang University for twice (2014,2017)

Employment Rate

Average of about 70% over the past three years (almost the same as the overall averagee of Sogang University)

Employment companies and institutions : KT, Naver, CJ E&M, Smilegate, SK, Lotte World, Innocean, HSAD, Dstrict, Hyundai Motor, Korea Creative Content Agency, etc.

Start-up

A total of 13 undergraduate student startups in the fields of art, software, and media over the past five years (including 2 local corporation in the United States)

Representative examples : 눈뜨면도착 (Introducing various media such as 한국경제, 세바시TV, etc.), 예술고래 (Selected to move into the Cultural Creation Venture Complex), etc.

Other Achievements

Smilegate Art & Technology Center establishment

8 new educational/research space and facilities including Fabrication Lab, Computer Lab, Sound Studio, Art Studio, Library, including the Immersive Hall, a cutting edge facility among other universities in Korea.

Industry-Academic cooperation

58 undergraduates from 12 projects over the past five years have participated as researchers. Major partners: LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Smilegate, Media & Art, Gyeonggi-do Museum, Afreeca TV, Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, InBody, Alphascan, Dstrict, etc.

Internship

Over the past five years, a total of 60 people participated in 25 companies field training (including only regular internship students) Major companies : Samsung Electronics VIP Center, Dstrict Holdings Co., Teteru Co., Gwangju Biennale Foundation, Art Center Nabi, Bondavinci Co., KBS Radio Station, NAVER, KTH, Lotte Dotcom, Kansong Art Museum, SAP, Smilegate, etc.

English lecture rate

Over the past five years, an average of 70% of the lectures have been conducted in English.

Exchange student rate

The average percentage of graduates who have been to exchange students over the past five years is 38%. (Independent Exchange Student Scholarship from the business)
